Pennsylvania Reflections

    Pennsylvania the nation's "Keystone State." Named after British Admiral Sir William Penn the name means "Penns Woods." It measures 310 miles east to west and 180 miles north to south. Penn State University is located at the geographic center of the state.

    Settled in 1643 by Swedes and then colonized in 1681 by William Penn north of Philadelphia in Bucks County where a reconstruction of his home and property, Pennsbury Manor, is open to the public. York was the first capital of the U.S. Philadelphia was the capital of the U.S. during the Revolution. Harrisburg is the capital of Pennsylvania and the home to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), and the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC).
